Jimmie & Kamilah with the boys
Jimmie Wilson Jr. was born on the south side of Ypsilanti and attended Perry School and Fletcher Elementary before moving to the West Willow neighborhood of Ypsilanti Township, where his parents still live. He completed his education in the Van Buren Public Schools, graduating from Belleville High School in 2001. Jimmie's interest in learning how things work led him to the Michigan Institute of Aviation and Technology where he became a licensed Aircraft Mechanic, then on to Siemens Energy where he travelled building wind turbines, and finally to Ford Motor Company Rawsonville Plant in 2012, where he joined UAW Local 898, worked through his apprenticeship to become a journeyman electrician.
Jimmie was elected UAW Local 898 Trustee in 2014. It was clear to him how important it is to be involved in the community and the political process, if hardworking families are to have a voice in matters that impact their lives. From that point forward, Jimmie chose to represent his community in public forums. In 2016, he ran for public office for the first time and was elected to the Ypsilanti Township Board of Trustees. Jimmie was re-elected to the Township Board of Trustees in 2020. His years of experience and dedication to Ypsilanti communities informed Jimmie’s decision to run for the role State Representative for the 32nd District in 2022, with the goal of being more than just another Democratic vote, but also a voice that ensures those policies reflect the needs and hopes of our community. Jimmie won that election and began serving in Lansing shortly after.
Jimmie was re-elected as State Representative for the 32nd District in 2024, after wiping out YCS and Willow Run school debt (which led to lowering property taxes for home owners in those districts), improving public defender pay, putting abortion rights in our state constitution, repealing so-called right to work, making the criminal justice system more compassionate, especially for children, bringing $100 million in projects to the district, sponsoring about 25 bills and cosponsoring nearly 700, while maintaining a 100% attendance record and being active throughout Ypsilanti. Jimmie's second term is now underway in Lansing.
